The Band - I Shall Be Released

I know, written partially by Bob Dylan, but I like The Band's version much better. From their 1968 debut album, Music from Big Pink.

Faith No More - Falling to Pieces

What's more 90s than Faith No More? I mean, look at what they're wearing! Nevermind that, though, they're damned fine musicians and lyricists. I screw up both of their legacies here. It's also the first time I've tried to play a FNM song, and I had to listen to it first to figure out how it was done, so I apologize for murdering the song!

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Lookin' Out My Back Door

An oldie and a goodie. I have no idea what this song is about, but I figure since I was confused about its lyrics, I could change up the tempo a bit at parts. I also messed up the bridge to the key change, but who cares.

Robert Johnson - Love in Vain

What to say about RoJo? Probably the best bluesman that every lived. He was a master at guitar and a master of words. And look at that handsome devil. If I had only a single photograph left of me, I hope it were that good.

I wonder if his legacy would be as great if he hadn't have died at 27?

Johnny Cash - Man Comes Around

One of the last songs he ever wrote. This one came out with the album of the same name in 2002. This is the version of it that I liked the most (there are several floating about). It's overly religious, but damnit if it just isn't a good song.

The Kinks - Picture Book

I don't know if I like this song or not, but my band wants to cover it, so here's me practicing it. It's OK, and the Kinks are bad ass enough to make up for a song that's overplayed by no fault of their own.

It's from 1968, by the way.

Neil Young - Southern Man

I'll have to play Sweet Home Alabama in response to this, I fear...

I'm not entirely familiar with this song, as you can tell, so it's a bit weird at parts. I play it with a capo on the third fret and play it in the same key as Young (Dm).

Nirvana - Come As You Are

What, you expected me not to cover a Nirvana song on the anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death? Too bad.

This one is a bit different than the original.

Johnny Cash - Rock Island Line

Not my favorite Cash song (he's still trying too hard to be like that bastard Elvis here), so I don't really care how shitty this is. If I were to play it, it would sound something like this.

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Green River

A classic song from one of the best American bands of all time. Fogerty is at his best here, unlike myself. I put a lot of sevens in it because without the noodling and solos between breaths it needs something to spice it up. Hope it's not too unfaithful!

Tom Petty - Mary Jane's Last Dance

Making up for the last three days of illness and business with three straight Americana songs.

Tom Petty goes first! I've never played this song before, but I love it.
